What is the Nifty Growth Sector 15 Index?

The Nifty Growth Sector 15 index is a strategy index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE). This index tracks the performance of the 15 NSE-listed stocks, which are highly liquid and traded in the sectors of market interest. 

The Nifty Growth Sec 15 index is used to analyse 15 stocks which collectively represent the performance of the 7 sectors of the market, namely, Information Technology, Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Automobiles and Auto Components, Healthcare, Consumer Durables, Capital Goods, and Consumer Services. 

Nifty Growth Sector 15 index was launched on 22nd May 2014, with a base date of 1st January 2009 and a base value of 1000. It is entirely owned and managed by the NSE Indices Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the National Stock Exchange of India. NSE Indices Limited is responsible for managing and governing the operations of the Nifty Growth Sec 15 index. 

The index is governed by a three-tier structure comprising the Board of Directors of NSE Indices Limited, the Index Advisory Committee (Equity), and the Index Maintenance Subcommittee. 

  • The Nifty Growth Sector 15 Index provides exposure to liquid stocks from sectors of market interest. 
  • It is a strategy index launched by NSE Indices Limited on 22nd May 2014 with a base value of 1000.

Nifty Growth Sector 15 Index Stocks - Selection Criteria

Sector Selection 

  • Sectors are selected based on the P/E and P/B values of the Nifty sectoral indices that are compared to the Nifty 50.
  • The sectors with a higher yearly average P/E and P/B than the yearly average P/E and P/B of Nifty 50 are selected in 3 out of 4 observations. 

*4 observations are derived based on the 2-year average P/E and P/B value. 2 P/E values and 2 P/B values for each sectoral index. 

Stock Selection 

  • Securities with derivative contracts available on them from the selected base period of July to December 2008 are identified. 
  • The top 50% of the securities ranked as per the free float market cap are selected for further scrutiny. 
  • Securities identified as per the above step are ranked based on their EPS growth frequency. 
  • The top 15 companies are selected as the constituents of the Nifty Growth Sec 15 index.
