Nifty Large Midcap 250 Index - Brief Introduction
Nifty Large Midcap 250 is a broad-based index of NSE, which is formed with a combination of 100 large-cap and 150 mid-cap companies. Nifty Large Midcap 250 index focuses on capturing the overall performance and behaviour of the NSE-listed large and mid-cap stocks, with 50% weightage given to each of the segments.
The Nifty Large Midcap 250 index was launched on 30th November 2017, with a base date of 1st April 2005 and a base index value of 1000. It consists of 250 listed equity shares from the large and mid-cap segments.
The Nifty Large Midcap 250 stocks cover almost 84% of the full market capitalisation, 87% of the free float market capitalisation, and 69% of the total liquidity of traded equities on the National Stock Exchange of India. As of 30th May 2025, the index stocks represent the collective performance of 20 sectors of the economy, such as Healthcare, FMCG, Power, Realty, Capital Goods, etc.

Nifty Large Midcap 250 Index - Formula and Calculation
Being a broad-based index, the Nifty Large Midcap 250 is calculated using the free-float market capitalisation method. Under the method, the resultant value of the index represents the aggregate value of all stocks included within the index. Nifty Large Midcap Index Formula = Current free-float market cap/ (base market capitalisation*base index value)

Base index value = 1000
Free float market cap = shares outstanding * IWF * capping factor * price
Free Float = Shares freely available for trading in secondary markets
IWF = Investible weight factor
The Nifty Media index is subject to a semi-annual review for which the cut-off dates are 31st January and 31st July each year. Each index review and rebalancing (if any) is implemented on the last trading day of March and September.
Nifty Large Midcap 250 Stocks - Eligibility Criteria
- The stock must be listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
- All the stocks forming part of Nifty 100 and Nifty Midcap 150 are included in the index.
- The weightage of stocks included in Nifty Large Midcap 150 is rebalanced quarterly.
- Stocks will be removed or included along with the reconstitution of the Nifty 100 and Nifty Midcap 150 indices.
