What is the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation?

The (GIC) Government of Singapore Investment Corporation is an investment firm established in 1981. The Singaporean government set it up to manage its sovereign wealth fund. GIC is responsible for managing the portfolio of the Government of Singapore and investing the funds in high-return assets. The Government of Singapore Investment Corporation is one of the three management entities in Singapore, alongside the Monetary Authority of Singapore and Temasek Holdings. 

The return generated from the GIC portfolio has helped the Government of Singapore to make further long-term investments and fund its monetary obligations. To put this into perspective, the Government of Singapore portfolio earned an estimated S$23.5 billion in FY24, which enables it to achieve its spending targets.

As of 31st March 2025, the portfolio of the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC) consists of 58 stocks aggregating to a total net worth of ₹2,52,029.38 crores. GIC actively manages this portfolio, making strategic adjustments to generate significant returns for the Singapore government's foreign reserves. 

The portfolio of the Singapore government is diversified across sectors and industries, with the power sector taking the lead with a 20.2% share. Thereafter, the industries include Banking (16.0%), Finance (10.8%), Automobile (9.0%), Crude Oil (6.9%), Infrastructure (6.0%), and others.

New Additions 

In April 2025, GIC added BSE Ltd. to the portfolio of the Government of Singapore. The company bought 18,63,561.00 shares of BSE Limited, representing a 1.38% stake. This stock is currently valued at ₹1,240.7 crores in the Singaporean Government portfolio. 

 

Buying in Existing Holdings 

On the buying side, GIC has increased its holdings in its current investments over the last 30 days. These holdings include publicly traded companies such as Reliance Industries, Info Edge Ltd., SRF Ltd., Axis Bank, and other stocks.  


Selling in Existing Holdings
