RBI Monetary Policy Meeting 2025 | 25 bps Repo Rate Cut by Sanjay Malhotra Amid Easing Inflation

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) conducted its bi-monthly monetary policy meeting from 7th April 2025 to 9th April 2025. We’re seeking a repo rate cut by 25 BPS, which has been finally approved by the MPC (Monetary Policy Committee).

Generally, RBI holds this session 6 times a year to assess benchmark interest rates and projections on GDP growth. But as for now, the primary aim of this meeting is to ease inflation fear caused by the global trade war. Scroll down to learn more about RBI Monetary Policy Meeting 2025 results.

Repo Rate Cut By 25 Basis Points

RBI met market expectations and reduced the key interest rate by 25 basis points. The announcement of reciprocal tariffs by US President Donald Trump played a vital role in influencing these expectations in the Indian market.

Rate Cut History

Previously, in February, the Monetary Policy Meeting reduced the repo rate by 25 basis points, which brings it down to 6.25%. This February cut was essential as it was the first reduction since May 2020.

Future Rate Cut Projections

In the forthcoming policy statement, Care Edge Ratings predicts another 25 basis point cut. Even a 75 basis point cumulative rate cut for 2025 has been predicted by Bank of Baroda. The RBI employs the repo rate at 6.25% to determine the amount of money to lend to commercial banks, and it is a key instrument to manage liquidity and inflation.
