United Breweries Shares Surge Up to 15% After Q2 Profit Jumps 190%: Premiumisation, Volumes, Valuation and Risks

United Breweries shares rose as much as 15.07% to Rs 1,316 on the BSE on Wednesday, 28 Oct 2026, after Q2 FY27 net profit rose about 190% to Rs 134.81 crore, but by 11:26 AM the NSE price was Rs 1,229.50, up 7.51% from Rs 1,143.60, which is about 6.7% below the day high of Rs 1,317.40 (my calculation). Premium volumes grew 38% and sell-in volumes grew 16%.

Quick Answer

United Breweries shares jumped as much as 15% because Q2 FY27 net profit rose about 190% to Rs 134.81 crore from Rs 46.34 crore, net sales rose 24% to Rs 4,664.33 crore, premium volumes grew 38% and the company said premiumisation drove the quarter. The stock has since given back about half of its morning gain, trading near Rs 1,229.50, and it trades near 67 times trailing earnings after the result (my calculation). Profit and sales fell from the June quarter, so the beat is against a weak year-ago base, and sources differ on the margin figure. This is educational and not a recommendation.

United Breweries shares are in focus because the quarter combined faster premium volumes with a three-fold jump in profit. This article covers the United Breweries Q2 results, what premiumisation means for margins, how the numbers differ between sources, the valuation of United Breweries shares and the technical levels, using prices as of 11:26 AM IST.

I did not find any brokerage rating or target after the result, and the share of premium beer in total volume was not disclosed in the report I used. The margin figure and the revenue figure differ by source, which I show below. It is educational and not advice.

United Breweries Shares: Price Move After Q2

United Breweries shares: reference Level Meaning (my calculation)
Previous close, 27 Oct Rs 1,143.60 Base for the move
Open (NSE) Rs 1,211.00 Gap up of about 5.9%
Day high Rs 1,317.40 on NSE; Rs 1,316 on BSE, up 15.07% Reported by Business Standard
10:05 AM Rs 1,239.75, up 8.41% (BSE) Sensex was down 1.05% at that time
NSE at 11:26 AM Rs 1,229.50, up 7.51% About 6.7% below the day high
Volume on the NSE About 33 lakh shares by 11:26 AM Strong against a normal session

The stock rallied against a weak market, since the Sensex was down about 1% in the morning. The intraday fade from the high shows that some buyers sold into the spike. The United Breweries share price is still above its previous close, so the gain has not been erased.

United Breweries Q2 Results: The Numbers

United Breweries shares: Q2 FY27 Figure Comparison
Consolidated net sales Rs 4,664.33 crore Up 24% year on year and down 22% from the June quarter
Net profit Rs 134.81 crore Up about 190% from Rs 46.34 crore; down 19% from the June quarter
Margin (Business Standard) 11.9%, up 480 basis points Not stated whether this is EBITDA margin
EBITDA (data provider) Rs 300.23 crore Up about 108% from Rs 144.54 crore (my calculation)
Operating margin (data provider) 6.49% Against 3.87% a year earlier
Revenue (Upstox) Rs 4,623 crore, up 23.7% Differs from Rs 4,664.33 crore above

The 11.9% margin and the provider’s 6.49% operating margin cannot both describe the same measure, and I could not tell which definition each uses, so please verify the margin in the company filing. Net profit is the same in the sources, at Rs 134.81 crore, and it is the figure that matters most for United Breweries shares in this quarter.

United Breweries shares: five quarters (data provider, Rs crore) Net sales EBITDA Net profit
Sep 2025 3,752.17 144.54 46.34
Dec 2025 3,948.08 236.84 81.15
Mar 2026 4,416.56 147.32 101.87
Jun 2026 5,970.15 333.31 166.28
Sep 2026 4,664.33 300.23 134.81

Profit has risen in four of the last five quarters against the year-ago base, and the sequential fall in September is partly seasonal, since the June quarter is the peak for beer. The year-ago profit of Rs 46.34 crore was the lowest of the five quarters, which flatters the 190% growth rate (my observation). For United Breweries shares, the sequential trend matters as much as the year-on-year jump.

Premiumisation and Volumes Behind United Breweries Shares

United Breweries shares: driver Q2 FY27 reading Why it matters
Sell-in volumes Up 16% year on year; inventory below year-ago levels Healthy demand without stock build-up
Premium volumes Up 38% year on year Premium beer earns higher margins
Heineken Silver Up 67% Fast-growing premium brand
Kingfisher Ultra Up 44% Premium extension of the core brand
Beer category Double-digit growth Industry tailwind
Market share Gains in profitable markets, led by Karnataka Share gains where margins are better

Management called the quarter one of robust category momentum, accelerated premiumisation and profitability expansion, and cited demographics, rising beer preference and premiumisation as long-term drivers. The report does not give the premium share of total volume, which would show how much premiumisation can still lift United Breweries shares.

Valuation of United Breweries Shares

United Breweries shares: metric Reading Note
Market capitalisation About Rs 32,400 crore at Rs 1,229.50 (my calculation) Provider shows Rs 30,237 crore at the previous close
Trailing price to earnings About 67 times (my calculation) Provider shows 76.44, using earnings that exclude Q2; industry about 50.9 times
Price to book About 7.2 times (my calculation) Book value Rs 171.03 per share
Return on equity 9.14% Provider figure
Debt to equity 0.29 Provider figure
Dividend yield About 0.9% At the previous close

The provider’s trailing earnings per share of Rs 14.96 equals the four quarters ending June 2026, so it leaves out Q2. Adding Q2 lifts trailing profit to about Rs 484 crore and earnings per share to about Rs 18.3 (my calculation using the implied share count), which gives about 67 times at the current price. A price to earnings multiple of about 67 with a return on equity of about 9% is a premium to the industry, so United Breweries shares need continued growth to hold this valuation.

Technical Levels for United Breweries Shares

United Breweries shares: indicator or view Reading Meaning
Harish Jujarey, Prithvi Finmart Stock moved above a short-term falling trendline; RSI had been deeply oversold with positive divergence Possible reversal; near-term upside of Rs 1,300 and then Rs 1,400 if the recovery holds
Caution from the same view The broader trend remains weak A reversal still has to be confirmed
RSI (14), 28 Oct 59.1 Moved from oversold to neutral after the jump
20-day EMA Rs 1,185.14 Price is about 3.7% above it (my calculation)
Supertrend (10, 3) Rs 1,133.73, trend up Support; upper band Rs 1,233.20 is the nearby resistance

The price is sitting almost on the Supertrend upper band of Rs 1,233.20, so a close above it would add to the positive signal while a fall back toward the Rs 1,185 average would show the gain is fading. These readings describe momentum in United Breweries shares and are not targets. The United Breweries share price needs to hold above Rs 1,185 to keep the recovery intact.

Risks to United Breweries Shares

  1. Valuation. About 67 times trailing earnings and a return on equity of about 9% leave little room for a miss.
  2. Weak base effect. The 190% growth is against a low year-ago profit, and profit fell 19% from the June quarter.
  3. Seasonality. Beer demand peaks in the summer quarter, so the December quarter may look softer.
  4. Data mismatch. Margin and revenue figures differ by source, so check the filing.
  5. Fading momentum. United Breweries shares have already given back about half of its morning gain in a weak market.

Conclusion: United Breweries Shares Have Strong Numbers and a High Multiple

United Breweries shares reacted to a clear improvement: profit up about 190%, premium volumes up 38% and sales up 24%. The same move left the stock at about 67 times earnings, and the intraday fade shows buyers are selective. Read the filing and the margin definition before you act on United Breweries shares, and decide with your own risk profile and not the morning headline.
