Orient Cables Listing Price: The Blockbuster Debut Among the IPO Listings

The Orient Cables listing price was Rs 450 on the NSE and Rs 448.10 on the BSE against an issue price of Rs 272, from a price band of Rs 258 to Rs 272. The Rs 552 crore issue drew bids of close to Rs 37,600 crore from about 38.45 lakh applications. Qualified institutional buyers bid 182.76 times, non-institutional investors 115.63 times and retail investors 30.55 times.

The company is a B2B manufacturer of networking cables, passive networking equipment and specialised cable solutions for broadband, telecom, data centres, renewable energy and smart buildings. Grey market premium of Rs 115 to Rs 121 signalled a pop of 42% to 44%, and the actual listing beat it.

German Green Steel & Power Listing: A Modest Gain Among the IPO Listings

German Green Steel & Power listed at Rs 142 on the NSE and Rs 143 on the BSE against Rs 139, below the 6% to 8% premium that the grey market implied. The Rs 304 crore issue, in a Rs 132 to Rs 139 band, was subscribed 30.5 times with bids of over Rs 6,470 crore. It is a vertically integrated iron and steel maker producing TMT bars mainly in western India, and it plans to use Rs 226.33 crore for capacity expansion in Gujarat and a hybrid wind and solar power plant.

Runwal Enterprises Listing: A Flat Debut in the IPO Listings

The Runwal Enterprises listing was at Rs 305 on the NSE, exactly at the top of its Rs 290 to Rs 305 band, and Rs 306 on the BSE. The Rs 500 crore issue was entirely fresh shares and drew only 2.65 times subscription from about 1.13 lakh applications. The grey market had signalled a discount of Rs 5 to Rs 10, so a flat debut was better than expected among the IPO listings. The real estate developer plans to use Rs 100 crore to repay borrowings and the rest for future projects and general purposes.

AceVector Listing Price: The Weakest of the IPO Listings (Snapdeal Parent)

The AceVector listing price was Rs 28.32 on the NSE and Rs 28.30 on the BSE against Rs 32, a discount of about 11.5%. The Rs 420 crore issue, in a Rs 30 to Rs 32 band with a lot of 468 shares, was subscribed about five times with bids of Rs 1,170 crore. The grey market had priced only Re 1 of premium, so a double-digit discount made it the weakest of the IPO listings and a negative surprise for holders.

Why Did These IPO Listings Perform So Differently?

  1. Demand: among the IPO listings, Orient Cables had 97 times subscription with strong institutional bids, while Runwal had 2.65 times.
  2. Valuation: issues priced at the top of the band with modest demand had little room to pop.
  3. Business appeal: networking cables for data centres and broadband carry a growth story that a real estate developer or an e-commerce parent did not match on the day.
  4. Grey market misses: the grey market understated Orient Cables and overstated AceVector.
  5. Market mood: the Sensex rose on the day, but stock-specific demand decided each debut.

What Can Investors Do After These IPO Listings?

Situation Points to weigh
Allotted Orient Cables A 65% gain is large, so some investors book part and hold the rest; the Rs 450 listing price is a first reference level
Allotted German Green Steel A small gain leaves the decision to fundamentals; the Rs 139 issue price is a floor to watch
Allotted Runwal Flat listing and low subscription mean limited demand; watch the Rs 305 level
Allotted AceVector A loss at listing; weigh the business case and the Rs 28.30 level before deciding

This table frames the questions for these IPO listings and is not a recommendation. Anchor investor lock-ins, typically 30 days for half of anchor shares, can add supply in early November.

The IPO Market Context Behind These IPO Listings

These IPO listings come in a strong IPO season. Business Today reports that 69 Indian companies raised Rs 90,500 crore in the July to September quarter, even as the stock market sold off. A busy calendar means investors have many choices and are picky, which explains the wide gap between the best and worst debuts.

Risks for New IPO Listings

Volatility: Newly listed stocks from IPO listings swing sharply in the first weeks, in both directions.

Liquidity: Lower-priced and smaller issues can see wide price gaps and circuit limits.

Lock-in expiry: Anchor and pre-IPO shares from these IPO listings unlock over the next one to three months.

Valuation: A large listing pop can leave the stock expensive against earnings.

Business risks: Real estate, steel and e-commerce each carry sector cycles and funding needs.

Conclusion

The four IPO listings on 5 October showed how much subscription and business appeal matter: Orient Cables rose 65%, German Green Steel 2%, Runwal listed flat and AceVector fell 11.5%. The Rs 1,776 crore raised was spread across very different outcomes, so the first-day move in IPO listings should be one input and not the whole decision.
