With that story he believes it is plausible that Anthropic’s revenue could approach a trillion dollars in a decade, with a target operating margin of 27.5%, reinvestment that delivers three dollars of revenue for every dollar of capital invested, and a cost of capital he sets in his model.

That is why the Anthropic IPO valuation from Aswath Damodaran should be read as a story with numbers attached, not a forecast of the share price. He adds a second argument for the upbeat case: as a trillion-dollar public company, Anthropic would have access to capital. He also treats the company’s large compute commitments as debt-like obligations in his inputs, which lowers the equity value and shows how compute costs drive the Anthropic IPO valuation, and he applies a regulatory drag to margins in the base case.

The Worst Case: Negative $373 Billion

In the worst Anthropic IPO valuation scenario the company does not survive as a going concern, and the model produces a negative equity value of $373 billion, which in practice means the shares would be worth nothing. The uncertainty he highlights spans revenue, margins, compute costs, competition and regulatory pressure.

The Best Case: $4.04 Trillion

In the best Anthropic IPO valuation scenario revenue reaches $1.5 trillion in 2036, margins converge on those of premium markets at 40%, computing becomes cheaper so that each dollar of capital supports four dollars of sales, the cost of capital falls to 7.79%, and regulation has no effect on margins. Those assumptions together give an equity value of $4.04 trillion, nearly three times his base case.

Check the Univest Screener for global technology stocks and sector trends

What Anthropic's S-1 Filing Shows: Revenue, Losses and Compute Costs

The Anthropic IPO valuation rests on Anthropic’s S-1 filing, made public on 26 October 2026, is for Class A shares to be listed on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker ANT, with the share count, price range and listing date left blank. Aswath Damodaran’s Anthropic IPO valuation does not depend on the one-off accounting gain, only on how fast the business grows. Strip that out and the operating picture, judged on run-rate revenue and reported revenue, is of a business whose revenue grew about 14 times year on year in the half, though Aswath Damodaran points to heavy compute costs and high operating leverage as the main risks, since compute costs are the largest fixed commitment in the model.

Is the Anthropic IPO Valuation Cheap or Expensive? The Multiples

At the $1.475 trillion Anthropic IPO valuation from Aswath Damodaran, Anthropic would trade at about 32 times its second-quarter revenue annualised, or about 22 times its third-quarter revenue annualised, using the $11.6 billion and $16.8 billion quarterly figures. Both are our calculations on quarterly figures, not the company’s run-rate revenue, and the run-rate revenue figure in the prospectus itself, which is measured as of 31 October 2026, is left blank. If revenue growth keeps slowing from the roughly 145% sequential gain in Q2 to the 45% gain in Q3, the multiple on a growing base falls, but only if growth does not decelerate sharply.

Aswath Damodaran flags the same slowdown, and it is the central tension in the Anthropic IPO valuation, and it is why the Anthropic IPO valuation range is so wide. Quarterly growth fell from about 145% to 45% in one quarter, and any further fall changes how much the market will pay for each dollar of revenue. The Anthropic IPO valuation base case from Aswath Damodaran already requires revenue to grow from an annualised figure near $67 billion based on Q3 to close to $1 trillion by 2036, which is roughly 15 times in 10 years.

Download the Univest iOS App or Univest Android App to track US technology and AI stocks and IPO news in one place.

Why Aswath Damodaran Is Wary of the Share Structure

Aswath Damodaran has criticised the governance behind the Anthropic IPO, according to BigGo Finance’s account of his comments. Aswath Damodaran said the structure would make him demand a deeper discount before buying a single share.

Aswath Damodaran also said his Anthropic IPO valuation will leave him on the sidelines at the IPO if the price is well above $1.48 trillion, since the rumoured pricing is $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion, but he added that this is a story with twists and turns, and that as value and price both change over time he is convinced it will become a buy at some point. Invezz notes that he cautions against shorting the stock as well.

What Other Analysts Say About the Anthropic IPO

Not every voice on the Anthropic IPO valuation is cautious. Against the Anthropic IPO valuation from Aswath Damodaran, Dan Ives of Yorkville Ives has said he expects strong appetite if the deal prices near $1.5 trillion, though he would not be an assertive buyer at $2 trillion and would decide on entering after the IPO depending on the final price. The gap between that view and Damodaran’s shows how wide the range of the Anthropic IPO valuation is before a price is set. India IPO’s report notes there is no comparable listed company for the Anthropic IPO valuation, so the IPO will become the benchmark that others are measured against.

What Indian Investors Should Know About the Anthropic IPO

The Anthropic IPO will be on the Nasdaq, not on an Indian exchange, so Indian residents who want exposure would need to use a platform that offers US stocks and follow the RBI’s Liberalised Remittance Scheme rules and the applicable tax treatment, which they should check for the current limits. The S-1 filing shows revenue growing about 14 times year on year to $16.3 billion in six months, a $80.7 billion loss that is mostly non-cash, and compute commitments above $600 billion. Until Anthropic sets a price and the Anthropic IPO valuation meets reality, the practical question for investors is how far above $1.5 trillion they would be willing to pay, and Aswath Damodaran’s answer to the Anthropic IPO valuation question is that he would wait.

Disclaimer: Data and figures in this article are sourced from publicly available information.
