The headline says all 10 stocks it tracks have corrected since listing, yet seven are still above their IPO prices. Premier Energies at Rs 925 is about 106% above its Rs 450 issue price but about 7% below its Rs 991 listing price, while Tata Technologies at Rs 743 is about 49% above issue and 38% below its Rs 1,200 listing price (my calculations). Experts say listing gains reflect short-term demand and urge investors to focus on earnings, cash flows, valuations and fundamentals.

Every new listing raises the same question: how much of the gain is real, and how much was a one-day price pop? IPO returns can be measured from the issue price, the listing price or the day-high, and each gives a very different answer for the same stock.

This guide explains the gap between listing gains and IPO returns, looks at Premier Energies and Tata Technologies with current prices, shows what the 2026 class of listings tells us and lists what experts say to check. The headline’s full list of 10 stocks is not available to me, so I use verified examples and say so. As of 25 September, 40 of the 53 were above their issue price, but only three had doubled.

The point of the report is that listing-day moves told investors very little about later IPO returns. Two of the three doublers fell on day one, and what separated the winners was later earnings and margin growth. For example, Shadowfax’s quarterly revenue rose 65% and profit rose more than eightfold in Q1 FY27. Higher-priced issues were also dominated by selling shareholders, who supplied 81.8% of the money raised in the 30 to 50 times band.

Experts quoted in that analysis add context on IPO returns. Abhay Agarwal of Piper Serica says pure offer-for-sale issues are priced at the highest valuations and leave little on the table.
