Tata Consumer Products Shares Jump 7% After Q2 Results: Is This Tata Group Stock a Buy Now? Elara Target, Price Hikes, Valuation and Risks

Tata Consumer Products shares closed at Rs 1,000 on the NSE on Tuesday, 27 Oct 2026, up 6.78% from Rs 936.50, after Q2 FY27 results announced on Monday showed revenue up 14% to Rs 5,661 crore and net profit up 16% to about Rs 470 crore. Elara Capital rates the stock Accumulate with a target of Rs 1,080 (cut from Rs 1,290), which is about 8% above the close (my calculation).

Quick Answer

Tata Consumer Products shares jumped about 7% because Q2 FY27 profit of about Rs 470 crore was slightly ahead of the average brokerage estimate of Rs 466 crore, India branded volumes grew 11% and Goldman Sachs, Jefferies and Citi pointed to price hikes and a margin recovery in H2. Elara Capital kept an Accumulate rating but cut its target to Rs 1,080 from Rs 1,290, mainly because of a lower value for the Tata Starbucks joint venture. Tata Consumer Products shares are still about 22% below the 52-week high of Rs 1,282.70 and trade near 60 times trailing earnings, so this is a rebound within a weak sector. This is educational and not a recommendation.

Tata Consumer Products shares were the only Tata Group stock to rise about 7% on results day, while the Nifty FMCG index remains near a four-year low. This article looks at the Tata Consumer Q2 results and what they mean for Tata Consumer Products shares, what brokerages said, how the numbers differ between sources, the valuation and the technical levels, and the risks after a one-day jump.

I could not open one headline that says six brokerages keep a Buy with up to 46% upside, so I have not used it, and I did not retrieve the ratings or targets of Goldman Sachs, Jefferies or Citi. The three sources I used give slightly different Q2 profit and EBITDA figures, which I show side by side. It is educational and not advice.

Open and day low, 27 Oct Rs 969 and Rs 960 Opened with a gap up of about 3.5%

Before the rally, Tata Consumer Products shares were near the low end of their range and were down about 15% over six months. The Tata Consumer share price on the NSE is the base for every upside figure below. The headline jump of 7% is a little above the 6.78% NSE close, because the percentage depends on the time and exchange quoted.

Tata Consumer Q2 Results: The Numbers

Tata Consumer Products shares: Q2 FY27 (Rs crore) Upstox report Goodreturns report Data provider (Sep 2026)
Revenue 5,661, up 14% from 4,966 5,661, up 14% 5,699.7 against 5,003.9
EBITDA 783, up 16.5% from 672 794, up 18% 821.8 against 709.8

Net profit 469, up 16% from 404 About 470, up 16% 467.2 against 397.1, up about 17.7%

The three sources agree on the direction but not on the exact EBITDA and profit figures, and the company’s CEO cited EBITDA growth of 18%, which matches Goodreturns and not the 16.5% in Upstox. The differences come from what each source counts as operating income. Reported earnings per share were Rs 4.75 and Rs 5.18 after adjusting for exceptional items and amortisation from the Capital Foods and Organic India acquisitions. H1 FY27 net profit rose 22% to Rs 897 crore.

What Brokerages Say About Tata Consumer Products Shares

Tata Consumer Products shares: broker View Note
Elara Capital Accumulate; target cut to Rs 1,080 from Rs 1,290, about 16% lower About 8% above Rs 1,000; Tata Starbucks value cut to Rs 40 per share from Rs 54; called Q2 revenue in line
Goldman Sachs Expects pricing to accelerate in H2 FY27 in India; salt strong, tea muted but expected to recover Rating and target not retrieved
Jefferies Q2 ahead of expectations despite inflation in tea and salt; price hikes should support growth Rating and target not retrieved
Citi Sees a clearer path to margin recovery in H2 and about 50 basis points of EBITDA margin expansion Price hikes not yet fully visible; rating and target not retrieved

Elara’s cut of 16% in the target shows that even a supportive broker lowered its value after the quarter, mainly because of the Starbucks joint venture. The other three views are about the second half: price hikes should lift revenue and the margin should recover from tea and salt inflation. These are expectations that H2 results will need to confirm, and the Tata Consumer share price will follow them.

Valuation of Tata Consumer Products Shares

Tata Consumer Products shares: metric Reading Note
Market capitalisation About Rs 99,000 crore at Rs 1,000 (my calculation) Upstox gave Rs 97,579 crore at Rs 986
Trailing price to earnings About 60 times (my calculation) Provider earnings per share of Rs 16.59 may not include Q2; its 56.46 was at the previous close
Rough price to H1 earnings run rate About 51 times (my calculation) Adjusted H1 earnings per share of Rs 9.85 doubled; a crude estimate
Return on equity 7.08% Provider figure; low because of acquisition goodwill and large equity
Debt to equity 0.13 Provider figure
Industry price to earnings About 32.7 times Provider figure

A price to earnings ratio of about 60 for Tata Consumer Products shares, with a return on equity of about 7%, is a premium, and it explains why the stock reacts to margin news and not just to growth. A premium valuation leaves less room for disappointment, and the dividend yield of about 1% adds little cushion. The Tata Consumer share price is therefore sensitive to margin news.

Technical Levels for Tata Consumer Products Shares

Tata Consumer Products shares: indicator (daily, 27 Oct) Reading Meaning
RSI (14) 56.0 Neutral to mildly positive; the stock was not overbought
20-day EMA Rs 966.71 Price is about 3.4% above it, which is short-term support (my calculation)
Supertrend (10, 3) Downtrend; upper band Rs 1,004.72 A close above Rs 1,004.72 would flip the signal to up
Supertrend lower band Rs 896.15 Below the 52-week low of Rs 916

The close of Tata Consumer Products shares at Rs 1,000 sits just under the Supertrend resistance of Rs 1,004.72, so the next few sessions show whether the rebound can turn the trend. The Rs 916 low and the Rs 960 day low are the nearest supports. These readings describe the trend and are not targets, and any trade should have a stop loss and a position size set beforehand.

Risks to Tata Consumer Products Shares

  1. Input costs. Tea and salt inflation is squeezing margins, and Citi’s expected margin recovery in H2 is still an estimate.
  2. Price hike risk. Higher prices can push shoppers to lower-priced brands or smaller packs, which can cut volumes.
  3. Starbucks joint venture. Elara cut its value of the venture by about 26% to Rs 40 per share.
  4. Valuation. About 60 times earnings and a return on equity near 7% leave little room for a miss.
  5. Weak sector. The Nifty FMCG index is down about 21% in 2026, and a one-day jump in Tata Consumer Products shares can fade if the sector keeps falling.

Conclusion: Tata Consumer Products Shares Rebound on a Clean Quarter

Tata Consumer Products shares rose about 7% on a quarter that was slightly ahead of estimates, with growth businesses up 40% and brokers pointing to price hikes and a better H2 margin. The stock is still about 22% below its 52-week high, trades at a premium valuation and faces cost and sector headwinds. Read the company’s results presentation, compare the three sets of figures, and decide with your own risk profile.
