IGI Shares Hit 10% Upper Circuit: What Is Fuelling the Rally?

IGI shares hit the 10% upper circuit at Rs 353.20 on 22 Oct 2026, up Rs 32.10 from the previous close of Rs 321.10, with about 6.4 lakh shares queued to buy and none for sale at 12:28 PM IST. The rally follows Q2 FY27 results filed on 21 Oct, which showed consolidated profit up 43% to Rs 185.8 crore. No single news item beyond the results explains the move, so the link is my reading.
Quick Answer
IGI shares hit the 10% upper circuit at Rs 353.20 after the company reported a 43% rise in Q2 FY27 consolidated profit to Rs 185.8 crore on revenue of Rs 398.0 crore. Certification volume grew 26% and the EBITDA margin widened to 61.4% from 58.0%, which is the clearest reason buyers rushed in. At the new price the stock trades near 25 times trailing earnings by my calculation, still below the industry multiple of about 36 times. A lower circuit can follow a sharp rally, so look at the price per report and the standalone numbers before you act.
IGI shares hit the upper circuit on Thursday because buyers overwhelmed sellers after a strong second quarter from the world’s second-largest gem certification business by volume (my reading of the company’s own claims). The stock opened at Rs 339, touched a low of Rs 333.70 and then locked at the Rs 353.20 ceiling, with no sellers in the order book.
This article on IGI shares explains the results behind the rally, how the valuation looks after the jump, what the standalone numbers say and what could go wrong. It is educational and not a recommendation to buy, and I flag every estimate.

IGI Shares Today: Price Action at the Upper Circuit
| IGI shares: price point | Level on 22 Oct 2026 |
|---|---|
| Previous close | Rs 321.10 |
| Open | Rs 339.00 |
| Day low | Rs 333.70 |
| Day high and last price | Rs 353.20, the upper circuit |
| Change | Up Rs 32.10 or 10.00% |
| Volume by 12:28 PM | About 50.5 lakh shares |
| Buy orders queued, no sell orders | About 6.41 lakh shares |
| 52-week range | Rs 287 to Rs 388.30 |
On the BSE the stock was at Rs 352.35, up 9.99%, with the same pattern of buyers and no sellers. The price is still about 9% below the 52-week high of Rs 388.30 and about 23% above the 52-week low of Rs 287 (my calculation). A circuit with no sellers means demand is higher than supply at the ceiling, but it also means volume is capped, so the price can gap in either direction on the next session.

IGI Shares and the Q2 FY27 Results
| IGI shares: Q2 FY27 consolidated metric | Q2 FY26 | Q2 FY27 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reports certified (million) | 3.45 | 4.35 | Up 26% |
| Certification revenue (Rs crore) | 294.1 | 387.5 | Up 32% |
| Revenue from operations (Rs crore) | 303.7 | 398.0 | Up 31% |
| EBITDA (Rs crore) | 176.3 | 244.5 | Up 39% |
| EBITDA margin | 58.0% | 61.4% | Up 340 basis points |
| Profit after tax (Rs crore) | 129.8 | 185.8 | Up 43% |
| PAT margin | 42.7% | 46.7% | Up 400 basis points |
These Q2 FY27 results were filed on 21 Oct, the day before the rally, and the figures above come from the company presentation as reported by Multibagg and Investywise. Against the previous quarter, reports rose 22%, certification revenue rose 8% and profit rose 12%. For the half year, certification revenue was Rs 747.4 crore, up 27%, EBITDA was Rs 468.3 crore, up 34%, and profit was Rs 351.6 crore, up 37%. The jump in profit well ahead of revenue is why the stock reacted so sharply.

Risk: A rally that follows one strong quarter can reverse if the next quarter shows slower volume growth or a weaker price per report.
Why Lab-Grown Diamond Certification Drives IGI Shares
| IGI shares: Q2 FY27 revenue mix | Share of certification revenue |
|---|---|
| Lab-grown loose stones | 54% |
| Natural diamond jewellery | 16% |
| Natural diamonds, loose | 14% |
| Lab-grown diamond jewellery | 9% |
| Gemstones and other | 6% |
The listed shares add up to 99%, so a rounding gap exists in the source. Lab-grown diamond jewellery certification grew 47% and lab-grown loose stones grew 37%, while natural loose stones grew only 8%. Lab-grown diamond certification is therefore the main growth engine for the group, and the company says certification penetration should reach 80% to 85% by 2030, a management claim that I have not verified. Gemstone revenue rose to Rs 24.4 crore from Rs 5.7 crore, helped by the consolidation of AGL, the acquired gemstone business.
IGI Shares Valuation After the Rally
| IGI shares: valuation measure | Figure |
|---|---|
| Market capitalisation | About Rs 13,844 crore (at the previous close, my reading of the quote) |
| Trailing EPS | Rs 14.11 |
| P/E at previous close | 22.7 times |
| P/E at Rs 353.20 | About 25.0 times (my calculation) |
| Industry P/E | 36.19 times |
| Price to book | 9.31 times at previous close |
| Return on equity | 38.34% |
| Debt to equity | 0.10 |
The quoted P/E of 22.7 times was struck before today’s jump, so at Rs 353.20 the multiple is nearer 25 times by my calculation. That is still below the industry multiple, which is why some investors see the stock as reasonably priced for a business with a return on equity above 38% and almost no debt. A price to book of more than 9 times shows the market already pays a high price for those returns. Trailing EPS also does not yet include the full benefit of the latest quarter.
Risk: The industry multiple of 36 times covers a mixed group of companies, so a comparison with it may flatter IGI shares.
Standalone Numbers: Where IGI Shares Look Weaker
| IGI shares: Q2 FY27 standalone metric | Q2 FY27 | Change |
|---|---|---|
| Certification revenue (Rs crore) | 304.0 | Up 28% |
| Reports certified (million) | 3.68 | Up 19% |
| EBITDA (Rs crore) | 212.3 | Up 21% |
| Profit after tax (Rs crore) | 169.7 | Up 22% |
The standalone India business grew more slowly than the group. Standalone EBITDA rose 21% against 39% for the group, and standalone profit rose 22% against 43%. The gap suggests that overseas operations and the AGL consolidation added much of the extra growth (my reading). The price per report also fell about 12% from the first quarter, from Rs 1,010 to Rs 891, because of a lower lab-grown mix, even though it was about 4% higher than a year earlier. Investors should watch whether the price per report recovers.
What Is Fuelling the IGI Shares Rally?
I could not find a company announcement or news item on 22 Oct apart from the Q2 FY27 results. One market report said buyers outnumbered sellers at the ceiling and did not name another trigger. My reading is that the results, together with earnings growth well ahead of revenue and a low debt level, explain the rally. The company also cites expansion in Dubai and Turkey, a planned entry into Saudi Arabia and a move into Italy, but I have no cost or timing for these. No formal earnings guidance was given in the sources I read.
IGI Shares: Scenarios After the Upper Circuit
| IGI shares: scenario (my reading) | What would need to happen | Likely effect |
|---|---|---|
| Follow-through | Buyers still queue at the ceiling and delivery stays high | Another strong session, with the Rs 388.30 high as the next reference |
| Consolidation | Sellers appear near Rs 353 and volume cools | Sideways trade as the market digests the Q2 FY27 results |
| Pullback | Profit booking after a fast gain, or a weak broader market | Part of the 10% gain is given back |
These scenarios are my reading and not forecasts. A stock that locks at its ceiling often opens higher the next day, but it can also see heavy selling once sellers get a chance, because the 10% band limits how far the price moves in one session. The Nifty was weak earlier today, which shows the stock is moving on company news and not on the market mood. Anyone watching the stock should compare the next session’s volume with today’s 50.5 lakh shares to judge how real the demand is.
What to Watch Next on IGI Shares
- Whether IGI shares open higher or lower on the next session after the upper circuit
- Whether buyers still outnumber sellers once the 10% band is tested again
- Certification volume and price per report in the next quarter
- Standalone profit growth, which lagged the group in Q2 FY27
- The Rs 388.30 52-week high as a reference level for IGI shares
Conclusion
IGI shares hit the upper circuit at Rs 353.20 after a Q2 FY27 profit jump of 43%, wider margins and strong lab-grown diamond certification. The valuation near 25 times earnings is reasonable against the industry, but standalone growth is slower and the price per report fell from the first quarter. Frequently Asked Questions
Why did IGI shares hit the upper circuit today?
Ans. IGI shares hit the 10% upper circuit at Rs 353.20 after Q2 FY27 results filed on 21 Oct showed consolidated profit up 43% to Rs 185.8 crore. No other trigger was found, so the link to the results is my reading.
What were the Q2 FY27 results of IGI?
Ans. Consolidated revenue from operations was Rs 398.0 crore, up 31%, EBITDA was Rs 244.5 crore, up 39%, and profit was Rs 185.8 crore, up 43%. The EBITDA margin widened to 61.4% from 58.0% a year earlier.
Are IGI shares expensive after the rally?
Ans. At Rs 353.20 the P/E is about 25 times my calculation on trailing EPS of Rs 14.11, below the industry P/E of 36.19. The price to book is above 9 times, so the stock still carries a premium.
Which business drives growth for IGI shares?
Ans. Lab-grown diamond certification is the main driver, with loose lab-grown stones at 54% of certification revenue and lab-grown jewellery certification up 47%. Natural loose stones grew only 8%.
Is the standalone business as strong as the group for IGI shares?
Ans. No. Standalone EBITDA rose 21% and profit 22%, against 39% and 43% for the group. Overseas operations and the AGL consolidation appear to have added the extra growth, which is my reading.
What are the main risks for IGI shares?
Ans. The price per report fell about 12% from Q1 to Rs 891, standalone growth is slower, and a rally after one quarter can reverse. A concentration in lab-grown diamonds also ties results to that market.
What is the 52-week range of IGI shares?
Ans. The 52-week range is Rs 287 to Rs 388.30. At Rs 353.20 the price is about 9% below the high and about 23% above the low, by my calculation.
