Hindustan Zinc Share Price Jumps 4% After Strong Q2 Results 2026: Should You Buy the Vedanta Group Stock? Target and Stop Loss

The Hindustan Zinc share price opened at Rs 559.85 on 21 Oct 2026, up 3.98% from Rs 538.40, and that was the day’s high. By 11:20 AM IST it traded at Rs 537.65, down 0.14%, so the gap-up had faded completely (my calculation). Q2 FY27 net profit rose 142% to Rs 6,412 crore on revenue of Rs 15,093 crore, up 77%. The stock is still about 27% below its 52-week high of Rs 733.

Quick Answer

The Hindustan Zinc share price gapped up about 4% to Rs 559.85 at the open on 21 Oct 2026 after the company reported record Q2 FY27 results, with net profit up 142% to Rs 6,412 crore, EBITDA at a record Rs 9,285 crore and revenue up 77% to Rs 15,093 crore. The jump in profit came from higher silver and zinc prices and a 29% fall in zinc cost to $703 a tonne, and silver revenue more than doubled to Rs 4,111 crore. The opening gain then faded fully, and the stock traded near Rs 538 by late morning, below its 50-day average of Rs 575.59 and with a 14-day RSI of 36.7. Whether to buy Hindustan Zinc or its parent Vedanta depends on whether you expect metal prices to stay high, so the levels below are reference points and not a target or stop-loss recommendation.

The Hindustan Zinc share price closed at Rs 538.40 on 19 Oct, down 0.30%, before the results came out after market hours. The first session after the Q2 results in my data is 21 Oct, and the Hindustan Zinc share price opened 3.98% higher, touched Rs 559.85 and then slid back to the previous close.

This guide to the Hindustan Zinc share price covers the live snapshot, the Q2 FY27 results, where the profit came from, valuation, sensitivities, growth projects, price levels and the Vedanta Group angle. It is educational and not a recommendation to buy or sell any share.

Below the 52-week high About 27% (my calculation)

Volume is about double the 19 Oct level, which shows that the gap-up drew heavy selling at the open. The Hindustan Zinc share price therefore reflects strong results being met with profit booking, and not an unbroken rally. The headline gain of 4% was the opening gap and not where the stock traded later.

Hindustan Zinc Q2 FY27 Results at a Glance

Metric Q2 FY27 Q2 FY26 Change
Revenue from operations Rs 15,093 crore Rs 8,549 crore Up 77%
EBITDA Rs 9,285 crore Rs 4,467 crore Up 108%, a record
EBITDA margin 62% 52% Up about 10 points
Net profit Rs 6,412 crore Rs 2,649 crore Up 142%
Earnings per share Rs 15.2 Rs 6.3 Up about 141% (my calculation)
Zinc cost of production, excluding royalty $703 per tonne $994 per tonne Down 29%

The net profit margin works out to about 42.5% (my calculation). For the first half of FY27, revenue was Rs 28,840 crore, EBITDA Rs 17,359 crore and net profit Rs 11,881 crore, up 143%. Subtracting Q2 from the half gives Q1 net profit of about Rs 5,469 crore, so Q2 profit was about 17% higher than Q1 (my calculation). The Hindustan Zinc share price now has to deal with the question of how long such margins last.

Where the Profit Came From: Silver, Zinc and Costs

Segment or metric Q2 FY27 Change
Zinc sales revenue Rs 8,224 crore Up 54% from Rs 5,354 crore
Silver sales revenue Rs 4,111 crore Up 141% from Rs 1,706 crore
Lead sales revenue Rs 1,130 crore Up 35% from Rs 840 crore
Other revenue Rs 1,628 crore Up 151%
Mined metal production 271,000 tonnes Up 5%, a Q2 record
Refined metal production 264,000 tonnes Up 7%
Silver production 173 tonnes Up 20%

The four revenue lines add up to Rs 15,093 crore. Management said silver contributed about 45% of first-half profitability, so the Hindustan Zinc share price now depends heavily on the silver price. Cash and investments stood at Rs 17,439 crore against borrowings of Rs 6,171 crore on 30 Sep 2026. Free cash flow before growth capex was Rs 6,389 crore, but one source gives this as the Q2 figure and another as the first-half figure, so check the filing. I found no dividend announcement in the sources I used, though the data feed shows a yield of 1.86%.

Valuation and Sensitivities for the Hindustan Zinc Share Price

Measure Value
Price to earnings 13.32 against an industry figure of 11.56
Trailing earnings per share Rs 40.39
Price to book 10.04, with a book value of Rs 53.56
Return on equity 69.51%
Debt to equity 0.22

If Q2 earnings per share of Rs 15.2 were repeated for four quarters, the annual figure would be about Rs 60.8, and Rs 537.65 would be about 8.8 times that (my calculation). That assumes metal prices hold, which is the main uncertainty, so it is an illustration and not a forecast.

Driver Estimated annual EBITDA effect
Zinc price change of $100 per tonne Rs 725 crore to Rs 750 crore
Silver price change of $1 per ounce Rs 200 crore to Rs 225 crore
Rupee move of Re 1 against the dollar Rs 325 crore to Rs 350 crore
Zinc cost change of $25 per tonne Rs 225 crore to Rs 250 crore

These sensitivities come from a single secondary source that carries a warning that it can contain errors, so verify them against the investor presentation. The same source says earnings could normalise if metal prices retreat. Growth projects include the Debari refined zinc expansion of 250,000 tonnes a year, taking capacity from 1.1 million to 1.4 million tonnes, at an approved Rs 12,000 crore with completion targeted for Q2 FY29, and a zinc tailings plant of 10 million tonnes a year at Rs 3,823 crore, targeted for Q4 FY28.

Hindustan Zinc Share Price Levels: Target and Stop Loss

Level What it is
Rs 575.59 50-day average
Rs 559.85 Day high and opening price on 21 Oct
Rs 557.95 Intraday high on 12 Oct
Rs 536.65 Day low on 21 Oct
Rs 531.00 Close on 15 Oct
Rs 524.50 Low on 15 Oct
Rs 453.50 52-week low

None of the three reports I used carried a brokerage target or a stop-loss for the Hindustan Zinc share price, so I do not quote one. The levels above come from daily price data and are only reference points. For example, a close below Rs 524.50 would take the Hindustan Zinc share price under its mid-October low, and a move above Rs 559.85 would clear the gap-up high. A trader sets a stop-loss from a personal loss limit and not from a headline.

Vedanta Group Angle: Should You Buy the Parent Stock?

Hindustan Zinc is part of the Vedanta Group, and Vedanta traded at Rs 241.05, down 0.88%, at 11:15 AM IST while the Hindustan Zinc share price was flat. I did not verify Vedanta’s stake in Hindustan Zinc or the timing of Vedanta’s own results, so check both. Buying the parent adds exposure to other businesses and to group-level debt, which the zinc subsidiary does not carry in the same way.

Risk: Zinc and silver prices, the rupee and cost control drive the profit. A fall in metal prices would reduce earnings quickly, and the Hindustan Zinc share price is below its 50-day average with an RSI under 40, which signals weak momentum.

What to Watch Next for the Hindustan Zinc Share Price

  1. Silver and zinc prices on the London Metal Exchange and in India
  2. The rupee against the dollar
  3. Any dividend announcement and brokerage notes after the Q2 results
  4. Whether the Hindustan Zinc share price holds above Rs 524.50
  5. Vedanta’s own results and any group restructuring news

Conclusion

The Hindustan Zinc share price opened 4% higher on record Q2 results but gave the gain back within hours, and it still trades about 27% below its high. The earnings are strong, yet they lean on silver and zinc prices, so read the filing, watch the levels and match any decision to your own risk limit.
