What to Do With IT Stocks? TCS, HCL Tech, Wipro, Infosys, Tech Mahindra: Why Experts Are Bullish After Accenture News

IT stocks have risen about 11% since Accenture’s 1 Oct 2026 results, with the Nifty IT index at 31,427 at 3:24 PM IST on 19 Oct against 28,305 on 1 Oct (my calculation). Monday was mixed: TCS and HCL Tech were up, Infosys fell about 2.3% and Nifty IT was down about 1.6%. Experts are cautious, and the headline word bullish is stronger than most of their comments. This article sets out signposts for what to do with IT stocks, not a recommendation.
Quick Answer
What to do with IT stocks depends on whether the rally is a durable recovery or a tactical bounce, and most experts quoted lean toward the second view, a tactical rally. Accenture’s Q4 FY26 revenue of $18.7 billion and its FY27 guidance of 3% to 6% local currency growth suggested that technology spending extends beyond AI, and Nifty IT rose about 11% from 1 Oct to 19 Oct (my calculation). Religare, Master Capital and Emkay call it a relief or tactical rally and advise being selective, while Geojit credits strong results and encouraging management commentary. The signposts that matter next are deal conversion, margins, Infosys’s Q2 results on 27 Oct and whether Nifty IT holds 31,000.
Investors asking what to do with IT stocks face a sector that is still far below its highs: TCS is about 26% below its 52-week high, Infosys about 34% and Wipro about 33%, while Tech Mahindra is only about 4% below its high (my calculation). So the rally has lifted the sector off the lows without erasing the earlier decline.
This guide covers the live snapshot of IT stocks, the Accenture numbers, how Nifty IT has moved, what experts say, a signpost framework for what to do with IT stocks and the risks. It is educational and not a recommendation to buy or sell any share.

IT Stocks Today: Live Snapshot and Distance From Highs
| Stock | Price at 3:24 PM IST, 19 Oct 2026 | Move today | Below 52-week high | Above 52-week low |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TCS | Rs 2,469.90 | Up about 0.2% | About 26.3% (high Rs 3,350) | About 24.9% (low Rs 1,976.80) |
| Infosys | Rs 1,134.00 | Down about 2.3% | About 34.4% (high Rs 1,728) | About 15.7% (low Rs 980.40) |
| HCL Technologies | Rs 1,395.00 | Up about 1.1% | About 21.6% (high Rs 1,780.10) | About 35.4% (low Rs 1,030) |
| Wipro | Rs 182.25 | Down about 1.2% | About 33.3% (high Rs 273.10) | About 16.2% (low Rs 156.79) |
| Tech Mahindra | Rs 1,786.40 | Down about 0.2% | About 3.6% (high Rs 1,854) | About 37.0% (low Rs 1,304.10) |
| Nifty IT index | 31,426.70 | Down about 1.6% from 31,924.10 | Not available | Up about 11.0% since 1 Oct (my calculation) |
Distances are my calculation from exchange prices. At 12:40 PM IST all five of these shares were lower, but TCS and HCL Tech recovered into positive territory by 3:24 PM, which shows the selling eased through the afternoon. Tech Mahindra is the one of these IT stocks trading near its high, so it has the least recovery left to make if the highs are the benchmark.

Accenture Results: Why IT Stocks Reacted
| Metric | Accenture Q4 FY26 (1 Oct 2026) | Read-through for Indian IT |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $18.7 billion, up 7% in local currency | Client demand for technology services is holding |
| New bookings | About $22.2 billion | Pipeline for future revenue |
| Managed services bookings | Record of about $12.8 billion | Outsourcing supports Indian providers |
| Large client bookings | 141 above $100 million, a record | Large deals are rising |
| FY27 guidance | 3% to 6% local currency growth; EPS $14.39 to $14.81 | Modest but positive |
| AI work | More than 400 clients started advanced AI work in FY26 | AI adds demand and pricing pressure |
Reports say the Accenture share price rose more than 20% on the day, its best ever, and Nifty IT closed about 2.2% higher on 1 Oct. The standfirst of the news story says the move signals IT spending beyond AI, which is the reading I use. I could not confirm a shift away from AI investment, since Accenture said it is raising AI investment.

How Nifty IT Moved: From Accenture to This Week’s Peak
| Date | Nifty IT close | Move (my calculation) |
|---|---|---|
| 29 Sep 2026 | 27,670.00 | Recent low close |
| 1 Oct 2026 | 28,304.70 | Accenture results day, up about 2.2% |
| 14 Oct 2026 | 30,171.00 | After the TCS and HCLTech results |
| 15 Oct 2026 | 30,719.80 | Up about 1.8% |
| 16 Oct 2026 | 31,924.10 | Up about 3.9%, the recent high close |
| 19 Oct 2026 (3:24 PM IST) | 31,426.70 | Down about 1.6%; day range 31,377.75 to 32,033.55 |
A report on 16 Oct said the sector gained about 12% in the week and added about Rs 2.6 lakh crore of market value, with Tech Mahindra up over 16% and Wipro up about 13%. The same report said TCS reported Q2 profit of Rs 13,884 crore, up 15%, with an operating margin of 24%. Monday’s session in IT stocks looks like a tactical rally pausing after a very fast run, since the index touched 32,034 and then slipped about 2% from that high (my calculation).
What Experts Say About IT Stocks After Accenture
| Expert or firm | View |
|---|---|
| Ajit Mishra, Religare Broking | FY27 guidance is positive, but recovery will be uneven and needs better deal conversion and margins |
| Ravi Singh, Master Capital Services | A tactical rally with soft tier-1 growth; avoid chasing and prefer selective, stronger players |
| Emkay Global | Mildly reassuring but a limited read-through; large-cap order TCS, Infosys, LTM, HCL Tech, Tech Mahindra, Wipro |
| VK Vijayakumar, Geojit | The rebound reflects strong results and encouraging management commentary |
| Gaurav Garg, Lemonn Market Desk | Buying after HCLTech results can support the sector near term, but profit booking and volatility remain possible |
| Krishna Sanghavi, Mahindra Manulife | Doubts about the commercial return on AI could ease worries if rollouts slow |
Most of these views carry a caution, which is why I describe the experts as cautiously positive on IT stocks and not simply bullish. None of the sources gave a price target for any of the five shares, so I list none.
Stock-by-Stock Notes on the Large IT Stocks
| Company | What I could verify | Open point |
|---|---|---|
| TCS | Q2 profit of Rs 13,884 crore, up 15%; operating margin of 24%; constant currency revenue up 0.5% quarter on quarter | Emkay’s first large-cap preference |
| Infosys | Down about 2.3% today; Q2 results due on 27 Oct 2026 | Guidance for the rest of FY27 |
| HCL Tech | Results were reported as better than expected, though sources differ on the date | I did not find the figures |
| Wipro | Rose about 13% last week | I did not find its Q2 numbers |
| Tech Mahindra | Rose over 16% last week and trades near its high | I did not find its Q2 numbers |
What to Do With IT Stocks: Signposts That Matter
| Signpost | Supports a durable recovery | Warns the rally may fade |
|---|---|---|
| Deal conversion | Large deals convert into revenue growth | Deal wins stay high but revenue stays flat |
| Margins | Operating margins hold near levels such as TCS at 24% | Pricing pressure as AI automates coding, testing and support |
| Guidance | Infosys keeps or raises FY27 guidance on 27 Oct | A guidance cut or a weak Q2 revenue print |
| Price action | Nifty IT holds the 31,000 area | A close well below 31,000 after the sharp run |
| Global flows | Money keeps rotating from AI hardware to services | The AI hardware selloff reverses and money flows back |
This framework is mine, not a recommendation. In practice what to do with IT stocks differs for a long-term holder, a trader and a new investor, and the useful step is to decide the signposts before the next set of results arrives. Comparing each company’s valuation, deal pipeline and margin trend is more informative than treating the whole sector as one trade.
Risk: A fast rally in IT stocks can reverse on profit booking, and brokerages expected weak sequential growth of about 1.7% in constant currency for Q2 before the results season. A fall in the AI hardware selloff, a currency move or slower client spending can all hit the sector.
What to Watch Next for IT Stocks
- Infosys Q2 results on 27 Oct 2026 and its guidance for the rest of FY27
- Q2 results and deal commentary from Wipro and Tech Mahindra, whose dates I did not find
- Whether Nifty IT holds 31,000 after Monday’s fall from 32,034
- Pricing pressure and AI deflation for IT stocks in tier-1 services
- Foreign investor flows, since about Rs 52,100 crore has been sold in October and these shares are widely held by foreign funds
Conclusion
What to do with IT stocks starts with reading the signals correctly: Accenture’s results and the TCS and HCL Tech numbers lifted the sector about 11%, but experts call it tactical and the large caps are still 22% to 34% below their highs. Track deal conversion, margins and the Infosys results before drawing conclusions about IT stocks.
