Swiggy Shares: Anand Rathi Upgrades Food Delivery Stock to 'Buy' Giving 3 Reasons | Target Price, Rating, Rationale

Anand Rathi has upgraded Swiggy to Buy from Hold and kept its target price unchanged at Rs 310, which implies about 35% upside from Rs 229 (my calculation). The Swiggy share price fell about 2.3% to Rs 229 by 3:23 PM IST on 19 Oct 2026, right at its record low of about Rs 228.5, after a rebound last Friday faded. The three reasons are a shift to profitability, food delivery as the profit engine and cash to cover quick commerce losses. Other brokers disagree on the stock.

Quick Answer

Anand Rathi upgraded Swiggy to Buy from Hold with an unchanged target of Rs 310, giving three reasons: contribution margin has moved from a loss of about 5.6% in Q4 FY25 to break-even in Q1 FY27, food delivery earns an EBITDA margin of about 3.1% and acts as the profit engine, and food delivery cash flows plus treasury income should cover quick commerce losses by FY28 or the first half of FY29. The brokerage values food delivery at 30 times FY28 estimated adjusted EBITDA and says the stock trades at about 23 times FY28 EBITDA, which gives quick commerce and dining out exposure for almost nothing. Even so, the Swiggy share price was at Rs 229 on Monday, about 50% below its 52-week high of Rs 459.95. Competition in quick commerce and a consumption slowdown are the main risks that Anand Rathi flagged.

The Swiggy share price hit a record low of about Rs 228.50 on Friday 16 Oct, bounced to about Rs 233.50, and slipped back near that low on Monday, so the upgrade has not yet changed the direction of the stock. At Rs 229 the Swiggy share price is about 19.6% below its 31 Jul close of Rs 284.95, the day after Q1 FY27 results (my calculation).

This guide covers the live snapshot, the upgrade, the three reasons, the Q1 FY27 numbers, what other brokers said, a valuation check and the risks. It is educational and not a recommendation to buy or sell the share.

Anand Rathi Upgrade: Rating, Target and Rationale for the Swiggy Share Price

Item Detail
Rating change Upgraded to Buy from Hold
Target price Rs 310, unchanged
Upside reported About 32.8% from Rs 233.50, per the report
Upside from Rs 229 at 3:23 PM IST About 35.4% (my calculation)
Valuation method Food delivery at 30 times FY28 estimated adjusted EBITDA, about a 15% discount to Zomato
Implied valuation The stock trades at about 23 times FY28 estimated EBITDA, giving quick commerce and dining out for free

Business Today named Anand Rathi as the brokerage, while another summary of the same call did not name the firm or the target, so I rely on the named source. The target price of Rs 310 was unchanged, which means the upgrade comes from the fall in the Swiggy share price and not from a higher estimate of value.

Three Reasons Behind the Upgrade

Reason What Anand Rathi says Number cited
1. Shift to profitability Swiggy is moving from growth at any cost to growth that drives profit Contribution margin from about -5.6% in Q4 FY25 to break-even in Q1 FY27
2. Food delivery is the profit engine The core food delivery segment funds the group while quick commerce stabilises EBITDA margin about 3.1%; GOV up 17.4% year on year in Q1 FY27
3. Cash covers the losses Food delivery cash flows plus treasury income should cover quick commerce operating losses By FY28 or the first half of FY29; cash about Rs 14,000 crore at Q1 FY27

The brokerage also expects Swiggy to narrow its growth gap with Blinkit over the next two quarters, which could push quick commerce contribution margin toward the high end of the guided 0% to -1% range, meaning higher EBITDA losses in the near term. That is the trade-off behind the Swiggy share price: better growth now may cost margin.

Swiggy Q1 FY27 Results Behind the Swiggy Share Price

Metric Q1 FY27 Comparison
Revenue Rs 6,812 crore Up 37% from Rs 4,961 crore
Net loss Rs 791 crore Down about 34% from Rs 1,197 crore
Food delivery GOV Rs 9,490 crore Up 17.4% year on year
Food delivery revenue Rs 2,208 crore Up 22.66%
Food delivery adjusted EBITDA Rs 292 crore Up about Rs 100 crore year on year
Instamart GOV Rs 7,907 crore Up 39.8% year on year
Instamart revenue Rs 1,232 crore Up 53%
Quick commerce contribution margin About -0.2% of GOV Better by about 440 basis points; break-even reached in May 2026
Adjusted EBITDA loss Rs 778 crore Narrowed

Revenue growth of 37% and a 34% narrower loss explain why Anand Rathi sees improving quality, but the net loss of Rs 791 crore is large, so the Swiggy share price still prices in a path to profit rather than current earnings.

What Other Brokers Said About the Swiggy Share Price

Brokerage Rating and target after Q1 FY27 (31 Jul 2026) Main point
Nomura Buy, target Rs 435 Food delivery stable; Instamart losses funded by food delivery cash
CLSA Hold, target Rs 318 Weak food delivery and quick commerce, margin pressure, strategy uncertainty
Macquarie Underperform, target Rs 230 Path to Instamart profitability unclear; higher cash burn
Anand Rathi Buy, target Rs 310 (upgrade reported 16 Oct 2026) Profitability shift and cash cover

These ratings are from the 31 Jul reports and brokers may have changed them since, which I could not check. Macquarie’s remark about flat Instamart GOV growth does not match the reported 39.8% year on year rise, so it probably refers to sequential growth, but I could not verify that. The spread of targets from Rs 230 to Rs 435 shows how divided analysts are on the Swiggy share price.

Valuation and Price Check on the Swiggy Share Price

Measure Value Note
Price at 3:23 PM IST Rs 229.00 NSE exchange data
Anand Rathi target Rs 310 About 35.4% above the price (my calculation)
Nomura target Rs 435 About 90% above the price; as of 31 Jul (my calculation)
Macquarie target Rs 230 About 0.4% above the price; as of 31 Jul (my calculation)
Fall since the 31 Jul close About 19.6% From Rs 284.95 (my calculation)
Fall from the 52-week high About 50.2% From Rs 459.95 (my calculation)

Risk: Anand Rathi flagged market share losses from intense competition and slower food delivery growth in a consumption slowdown. Quick commerce also needs continued spending on dark stores and delivery networks, so the Swiggy share price can stay under pressure if cash burn rises.

What to Watch Next for the Swiggy Share Price

  1. The Q2 FY27 results, whose date I could not confirm, for the contribution margin against the 0% to -1% guided range
  2. Instamart GOV growth against Blinkit, since the growth gap is what Anand Rathi expects to narrow
  3. Food delivery GOV growth against the 17.4% reported in Q1 and its EBITDA margin near 3.1%
  4. Cash balance against the Rs 14,000 crore reported at Q1 FY27
  5. Whether the Swiggy share price holds the Rs 228.45 record low or breaks below it

Conclusion

Anand Rathi’s upgrade to Buy with a Rs 310 target rests on margin progress, food delivery profits and a cash cushion, but the Swiggy share price is still near its record low and brokers disagree. Compare the upgrade with the Q2 numbers and cash burn before drawing conclusions about the Swiggy share price.
